Estée Lauder

Estée Lauder engaged Gustavson/Dundes to design a retain store and beauty spa in the American shopping center in Manhasset, NY. The project included a modest merchandising area on the ground floor and large day spa on the lower level connected by a monumental circular metal and glass stair. The spa has been expanded twice and the challenge presented to the design team involved incorporating the many treatment rooms into the existing conditions.

Garden City, Long Island Residence

Gustavson/Dundes has completed numerous free-standing homes and large additions in the New York metropolitan area. This particular project, located in Garden City, NY, features natural stone, cedar shingles, asphalt roof and includes a double height basement space incorporating a half-court basketball court, exercise room, pub room and media room. The house also includes six bedrooms all with private bath, and a covered porch in the rear complete with an outside kitchen, fireplace and entertainment area.

North Shore Synagogue Nursery School

North Shore Synagogue in Syosset, NY, commissioned Gustavson/Dundes to design a new nursery school to serve the growing community and to attract new members. We began by conducting a careful study of the existing facility, preparing accurate as-built drawings and understanding the many needs of the synagogue and school. Our ‘playful’ design features a “children’s street” between the existing building and new school wing. Each classroom has a distinctive color scheme and the building is designed for a future second storey.

West Side Duplex Apartment

An artist’s studio formerly occupied this space in a pre-war building on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. It featured double height spaces, original mahogany woodwork and large windows to the north. Gustavson/Dundes restored and added to the original neogothic features for a couple’s personal residence. The Firm integrated and hid modern systems (i.e. HVAC, electrical, switching) within the new design, while finding areas to display the Owners’ large collection of early 20th century artwork.

Boutique Investment Banking Firm

The corporate offices of this boutique Investment Banking firm located at Madison Avenue and 55th St., required a thorough understanding of the business needs of its management, and how its employees interacted with clients. Gustavson/Dundes analyzed their existing offices, and then provided complete architectural and interior design services for the new 6,000 square foot location. Additionally, there were state of the art technology systems that needed to be installed and coordinated into the design.

The project featured a unique patterned glass wall for the Reception and continued to the perimeter offices to maximize the natural lighting, yet still offered needed privacy.

Central Park South Penthouse

This duplex penthouse apartment in the Ritz Carlton on Central Park South provides a commanding view of Central Park. Our assignment included the conversion of 5000 square feet of raw space into a three bedroom apartment with ballroom, large dining room, solarium and atrium terrace areas. Gustavson/Dundes coordinated the construction and provided interior design services.

McDonald’s

Gustavson/Dundes has worked on many projects for the McDonald’s Corporation. These projects are located in various New York City and suburban locations. Close cooperation with the Corporate Facilities Department of McDonald’s was necessary to prepare feasibility studies, and then build out many restaurants. The complexity of these projects included zoning studies, accessibility issues, and complex kitchen and HVAC requirements, as well as strict budgetary goals.
